Payment for Emergencies
Payments for qualifying emergencies (including services at hospitals or urgent care centers within the PAYER service area(s)) are to be based on the medical signs and symptoms of the condition upon initial presentation. The retrospective findings of a medical work-up may legitimately be the basis for determining how much additional care may be authorized, but not for payment for dealing with the initial emergency.
